Some of the art that most appeals to me lately is abstract figurative art, where there is a semblance (or at times an actual likeness) of a person or figure, but taken to an extreme. It leads you down different and unexpected paths. I enjoy the play between shapes linked to reality, and abstraction. I played around with this concept in a few of my works on paper.
One artist that I greatly admire that is a master of figurative abstraction is Cecily Brown. In this video, she talks about how all her work is a conflict between figuration and abstraction:
